The SOMMER 3100 pedestrian door safety device protects your sectional garage door equipped with a pedestrian door. This original SOMMER roller contact, IP67 waterproof, detects the opening of the pedestrian door and prevents the motor from operating the door until the passage is closed. It is compatible with SOMMER motor drives and many motors from other brands.

What is a pedestrian door safety device used for?

A pedestrian door built into the door panel is convenient for entering the garage on foot, but it creates a risk: if the door is operated while the pedestrian door is open, the panel can twist, the pedestrian door can be damaged, and a person may be in the passage. The roller contact is depressed when the pedestrian door is closed. As soon as it is opened, the contact changes state and the motor blocks all movement.

It should be replaced when the door starts while the pedestrian door is open, when the motor refuses to operate while the pedestrian door is properly closed, when the roller is broken or seized, or when the cable is cut or crushed.

Compatibility

On SOMMER DUO, base+ and pro+ motor drives, the safety device connects directly to the carriage thanks to its pre-assembled cable: no spiral cable needs to be installed along the door. It is also suitable for many motor drives from other brands, by connecting it to the safety or stop input provided for the pedestrian door in the motor control box.

Choosing and installing correctly

• Fix the contact on the frame, on the lock side of the pedestrian door, so that the roller is depressed when the pedestrian door is closed, without forcing the mechanism.
• Route the cable along the panel, avoiding pinch points between the panels and the hinges.
• Always cut the power to the motor before connecting the cable to the carriage or the terminal block.
• After installation, test both situations: with the pedestrian door open, the door must not move; with the pedestrian door closed, it must operate normally.

Can I install it on a motor that is not a SOMMER brand?

Yes, it is compatible with many motors from other brands. It is then connected to the safety or stop input of the control box. Send us your motor's reference if you want confirmation.

Yes, the safety device is delivered with its pre-assembled cable, ready to plug into the carriage of SOMMER base+ and pro+ motors.

My motor no longer starts after installation, what should I do?

Check that the roller is properly depressed when the pedestrian door is closed and that the plug is correctly connected. A poorly adjusted contact is considered an open pedestrian door.
