Spring and cable kit for sectional doors from 2016 onwards – compatible with FAME, BKF, SDA, Gypass, France Fermeture

This spring and cable pack for sectional garage doors brings together in a single order the parts that balance FAME, SDA and BKF doors with side-mounted extension springs, manufactured from 2016. It is designed for a door measuring 1906 to 2,030 mm in height maximum and weighing 55 kg maximum: you no longer have to search separately for the right spring, the right cable length and the pulleys.

What is this spring and cable pack used for?

On a sectional door with extension springs, each side of the door has its own spring, stretched along the horizontal rail. The lifting cable connects the bottom of the panel to the spring by passing through a return pulley. When you open the door, the spring releases the stored energy and carries most of the weight: the door lifts almost by itself, whether by hand or by motor.

These three parts wear out together. The warning signs are:

• the door becomes heavy to lift or falls back down when released halfway;
• the panel rises crookedly or rubs on one side;
• a cable is frayed, rusted or has loosened on its pulley;
• the pulley squeaks, turns poorly or has play;
• the motor strains, stops mid-stroke or goes into safety mode.

Changing the spring, cable and pulley at the same time prevents a worn part from quickly damaging the new parts, and restores even balance on both sides.

Compatibility

The pack is suitable for FAME, SDA, BKF, Gypass and France Fermeture residential sectional doors equipped with side-mounted extension springs and produced from 2016. For older Gypass Europa doors, use our Gypass Europa compatible spring and cable pack instead.

To check that it is the right pack:

• check the height and weight on the manufacturer's plate, usually glued to the jamb or the rail: the pack covers a height of up to 2,030 mm and a weight of up to 55 kg;
• compare your springs, cables and pulleys with the photos on the product page;
• check the year of manufacture of the door, indicated on this same plate.

Choosing and installing correctly

The spring is calibrated according to the height and weight of the door. A spring that is too weak lets the door fall back down, a spring that is too strong makes it rise on its own. This is why this pack is only suitable for a door measuring 2,030 mm and weighing 55 kg maximum. For larger doors, choose the extension spring and the lifting cables from 2016 individually, according to your measurements.

Points to consider during installation:

• Safety: an extension spring stores a lot of energy. Work with the door open and secured, springs slack, wearing gloves and safety glasses. If you are not comfortable, entrust the assembly to an experienced person.
• Always replace both sides at the same time to maintain symmetrical balance.
• Check that the cable is properly engaged in the groove of each pulley before putting the door back into service.
• After installation, lift the door halfway by hand: if properly balanced, it should stay in place.

Frequently asked questions

My door measures 1,950 mm, is the pack suitable?

Yes, if its weight does not exceed 55 kg. The pack covers doors with a height between 1,906 and 2,030 mm.

Can I only change one side?

This is not recommended. A new spring next to a worn spring unbalances the door and wears out the cables.

My door dates from before 2016, what should I do?

The cables are not the same. Send us a photo of the manufacturer's plate: we will direct you to the right parts.
